The Southwest of Portugal: The Atlantic coast from Alentejo and Algarve

Alentejo’s South Western coast and Vicentine’s Coast – the name given to the litoral land strip between Odeceixe and Burgau – belong to a distinctive natural park, full of breathtaking landscapes and unique species of flora and fauna, that attract scientists and tourists from all around the world.
Indeed, this natural park is one of the few locals in Europe where we can watch otters in their marine habitat. And it’s the only place in the entire world where white storks make their nests in maritime cliffs.
Amid the cliffs and slopes that make the landscape of this coastal strip, it’s possible to glimpse surfers and bodyboarders, that come here all year long to enjoy the agitation of the waves of the beaches, that line up almost uninterruptedly until the Cape of St. Vicent. Some of these beaches are some of the most beautiful and known beaches of Portugal: Porto Covo, Vila Nova de Mil Fontes, Malhão, Odeceixe, Arrifana, Amado. And it’s precisely some of them that we’d like to show you during this tour.

TOUR

In this adventure, we want to show you some of the most beautiful beaches in our country. We will alternate between beaches and traditional picturesque villages from the Alentejo and Algarve’s coasts. We’ll make a stop to lunch where, we guarantee, you’ll taste seafood that will make your mouth water!

Azenha do Mar
We start our day at Azenha do Mar, a small picturesque village that makes its living from maritime activities. We’ll see its beautiful beach, nestled between cliffs and rocks, with a small port and its own waterfall.

Amália’s Beach
We’ll show a nature’s secret: Amália’s Beach, or Beach of the Brejão, is so hard to find that is almost always empty. This beach became known as Amália’s beach because it was in this region that the famous fado singer Amália Rodrigues used to spend her vacations. It’s the perfect beach to run away from the populated Summer of the portuguese coast and it also has a small and relaxing waterfall.

Zambujeira do Mar
Next, we go to the famous Zambujeira do Mar, a peaceful fishing village that was built on top of a cliff. These cliffs are known for their rich and preserved nature and for their small and gorgeous beaches that will, for sure, leave you delighted.

Lunch
We go back to Azenha do Mar to enjoy our lunch: a variety of delicious and fresh seafood in the famous and only restaurant of the village. We’re sure you’ll want to come back here!

Odeceixe
We go down to walk off our lunch with a stroll along the Odeceixe beach, a well-known paradise at the mouth of the river Seixe. Here you can take sea or river baths, explore caves and other natural formations and observe surfers, that love this sea so much.

Arrifana Beach
In a bay of extensive sand, surrounded by tall shale cliffs, was born the gorgeous beach of Arrifana. It’s here where we end our adventure, on this beach full of ecological importance and very much loved by surfers and bodyboarders.
